Gallery October 2007. Two years later
The stream is now quite
difficult to see with the plants crowding into the stream bed. |

The cladding to hide the
ugly concrete walls etc has still not been done. Maybe that is a
project for next year. There are so many options - we're even
thinking of old barn facade where the wheel barrow is standing. |

Neither Carole my wife or I
are gardeners. Di Kearns (082 823 2511) did the initial planting
for us and the stream just did the rest. Everything grows like
wild fire, even during the winter. The area is a favourite with
baby Josh who often sits in the stream to cool off. |

Our only job is to keep
everything in check by pruning madly. We also have to constantly
remove plants that automatically seed themselves. If we did not
do this the stream would not be visible at all. |

The source of the stream
and the marshy area has reached quite a height now. We are
pleased to note that this area does not smell nor is it a
breading area for mozzies. The water is not stagnant because the
stream automatically flows once per hour day and night. |

Many plants have moved
themselves around finding their own comfy spot. This has
happened without our intervention - the plants know where they
will grow best. |

The bird and insect life in
our garden is nothing short of amazing. At night the area is
alive with sounds making the city seem far far away. We even
have frogs despite not having a pond of any description. We did
not want that worry with Josh being planned when the stream was
laid out |
